ᴘsᴀʟᴍ ᴛʜɪʀᴛʏ-ᴛᴡᴏ, sᴇᴠᴇɴ thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. selah.

‘sᴇʟᴀʜ’ is a Hebrew word referring to a voluntary + intentional pause for reflection. it occurs seventy-one times in the book of Psalms and three times in Habakkuk.
in times of pausing, God gives us a revelation that transforms our perspective, ultimately bringing us closer to Him. sᴇʟᴀʜ positions us to hear His voice + be in His presence.
in a world where we constantly feel the pressure of responding, explaining, proving + having a next step — i so appreciate the freedom + peace in selah.

a selah / pause is a little different than silence. in my opinion, silence is waiting in expectation, + selah is settling your spirit in contentment.
it’s saying God, i’m not waiting on anything
i’m not searching for anything
i’m not looking for you to do more or be more
i am settled in you, i am satisfied in you
i am fulfilled; not for what you’re doing for me, but bc of who you are 🤍
and after i have come to you, especially in distress — i express my faith, gratitude + i rest in Your Word w/a selah

ᴍɪᴄᴀʜ sɪx, ᴇɪɢʜᴛ He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
